Display and Presentation

Chapter 4 surveys the display of archaeological sites and artifacts as an effective means of disseminating professional and scientific work to the wider public. It examines how different modes of presentation reflect ideological and religious arguments. Archaeological sites and monuments—some within the Old City, others located in the designated National Parks and West Jerusalem—are integrated into Jerusalem’s urban landscape, thus forming a vital part of the contemporary city. Numerous artifacts with an explicit Jerusalem provenance can be viewed in the context of various permanent or rotating exhibits on display among others at the Islamic Museum of the Haram al-Sharif, the Rockefeller Museum, the Museum for Jewish Antiquities of the Hebrew University, the Israel Museum, the Bible Lands Museum, and the Tower of David Museum.
