In 2008-09, Zege experienced a crisis of buda spirit attacks centered around the local marketplace. This chapter demonstrates how buda have been tied to various excluded minority categories in Ethiopia and also to those who make a living by trade. In so doing, I show how the spirit crisis reveals the destabilizing of local elite norms of hospitality and moral exchange.
